Why Accept Credit cards Online?
A few years ago, the world was rocked by
the bursting of the 'Internet Bubble'. Normally
sane people went crazy, investing vast sums
of money into the stock market with little
or no knowledge of the actual workings of
the countless 'internet companies' which surged
onto the financial markets. One of the primary
reasons why such businesses failed was that
they assumed that large amounts of consumers
would flock to their sites, credit card in
hand. This was not to be, as very few people
had the faith in internet security to risk
shopping on the net. That, coupled with the
inflated estimate many would-be internet entrepreneurs
held regarding their business, meant that
when the actual accounts came through, their
company wasn't worth the paper their share
options were wrote on.
Where are we now?
The National
Statistics figures from November, 2004
showed a double in Internet Sales turnover
since 2002. See
more on this story here. As computer education
improves, so Consumers have more faith , in
giving their details over the internet. Ebay
has done a lot to help, with people happily
sending money back and worth to sellers all
over the world via paypal.
I am not a Retailer, why would i
want to accept credit cards online?
I can hear you thinking 'Its ok for the large
retailers but what about me?'. Indeed, people's
first assumption when looking at getting a
website,
accepting credit cards etc, is that, if you
are selling not a product, but a service,
why would you want to accept credit cards
over the net? The answer is simple. People
such as NoChex and paypal offer credit card
processing without the need to subscribe to
the traditional merchant account, tied to
a high street bank. Thus, with the right kind
of support, the vast majority of businesses
could potentially accept credit card payments
for all kinds of services and products.
